Browning, the country’s
second-ranked outside linebacker, is a 6-foot-4,
230-pound prospect from Kennedale, Texas.
The recruitment of Browning has
been interesting for a while. In the last two
weeks, however, it’s been a roller coaster. For
months, Ohio State had been viewed as a primary
contender in this recruitment, with the primary
competition rotating, seemingly weekly. It was TCU,
it was Michigan, it was Notre Dame – and
recently, and most seriously, it has been Alabama.
Browning visited the Tide in mid-October. Since
that trip, things appeared to be headed in that
direction.
Then, as Ohio State hosted
Michigan in Ohio Stadium last week, Browning made
his official visit with the Buckeyes. Though he
arrived in Columbus late, the visit could not have
gone better. Ohio State had blown away Browning
and his parents during his first visit to the
school in May and did so again in November. With a
planned commitment date of Nov. 29, the Buckeyes
had just one day to try to convince Browning to not
commit to Alabama. He didn’t. Suddenly, all the
momentum that the Tide had gained swung back
toward the Buckeyes.
On Wednesday night, four Ohio
State coaches – Urban Meyer, Tim Beck, Luke
Fickell and Greg Schiano – were in Kennedale to
visit Browning.
